I wanted to find a better way to keep my sticks fresh in my chest humidor. I was tired of spending nights awake wondering if my foam humidifiers were drying out, or if they were too wet. My smokes deserved better than that. So I waited for the new version of the Cigar Oasis to arrive on the market, and went ahead and tried it out.
The unit appears to be well made. It’s made entirely plastic, and has a small computer-cooling fan to provide the airflow. Inside the unit is a microprocessor that monitors the humidity, which is user set.
Power is provided by standard 110v household voltage. Voltage is reduced to 12v through a power converter. To use as little seal space as possible, the unit uses a tape wire that passes through the lid seal, near the box hinges. This wire attaches easily to the unit in two areas that are adjacent to each other. You choose which one works best for your humidor. The optional battery pack will operate the unit also, although the unit operation is reduced by the microprocessor to conserve power. The battery pack optimizes 6 AA batteries.
I have mine set to 71% RH, and have placed it in the bottom of my chest humidor. It has maintained that setting for three weeks without me having to worry about my stogies getting too wet or too dry. I have noticed a variance of 2% from the top of the humidor, to the bottom. The top is a little dryer, but I hypothesize that this is because the cigars on the two higher racks tend to block the airflow.
I think that this is a wonderful, easy-to-use gadget. It is easy to use, although a bit expensive (but so are your cigars). The foam cartridge is refillable up to 5 times with a 50/50 solution of H20+PG. This can reduce the usage cost. Now I sleep better at night.
