STORAGE CONDITIONS: These stogies have been resting in my cabinet humidor, which is set at 68%RH and with temperatures varying between 68-72 degrees F. The cigars are shipped in a cabinet style box without cellophane. I have kept them in their original box and inside my cabinet. This is the first in a series of reviews on these cigars, which have been resting for over 5 months in my humidor.
TASTING NOTES: Cabaiguán cigars are blended in the style of the flavorful yet medium-bodied cigars of Cuba. These cigars are rolled in classic Cuban tradition by Master Rollers in Little Havana Miami, FL U.S.A., headed by Maestro Tobaquero Jose Pepin Garcia.
The golden brown wrapper leaf is beautiful. The Connecticut shade wrapper, grown in Ecuador, has an aroma of oily roasted nuts. The wrapper is relatively free of noticeable veins, save one medium sized vein that runs through the torso of the cigar. It is firm to the touch, but grows a bit softer toward the foot.
After clipping and lighting this Cabaiguán torpedo, I am greeted with spicy hay-like characteristics. It is dry on the palate yet tingly on the tongue. The body is initially light-medium and the flavor is solidly medium in intensity.
During the first inch I experience a rather minor burn problem. I slow down my rate of puffing to see if that will help and by the end of the first third the cigar is burning evenly again.
This cigar is spicy and flavorful, the spice actually increases as the smoke progresses. The draw has been smooth and even and the burn line straight. This cigar possesses the flavor and characteristics of many Cuban cigars that I have smoked.
This cigar is solidly medium in body and spicy to the nub. The finish is long and satisfying on the palate. This is a cigar that I want more of and don’t want it to end.
I will revisit the Cabaiguán Belicoso Fino in about three months.
