STORAGE CONDITIONS: These cigars, which come in cellophane wrappers, have been resting in an Aristocrat cabinet humidor. The “Mini” cabinet is set at 68%RH and the temp varies between 67-72 degrees F. This is the first in a series of reviews on this Belicoso.

TASTING NOTES: This stogie comes from Bucanero Cigars, a notable boutique cigar manufacturer headed by Robert Spoden.

The Bucanero Clasico Maduro has earned the prestigious title of the “Top 3 Maduro’s of the 20th Century” as cited in the Cigar Industry Awards.

The Clasico Maduro has an earthy and rugged looking Connecticut broadleaf maduro wrapper, which is ripe with pungent earthy aromas. The wrapper looks and feels a bit dry, though it softened a bit after being lit. The cigar sports an Ecuadorian binder and a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers.

After clipping the tip of this Belicoso, I set the generous foot to light with my Blazer PT 4000 pencil torch. I am immediately greeted with a spicy sweetness, which is followed by dry, woody characters.

The pearl-white ash is consistent and drops a firm pellet into the bottom of my ashtray. The burn line is meandering but relatively even, overall, and the draw is smooth and even.

Throughout the first half, the cigar displays a medium-body with woody and nutty characters and a spicy sweet finish.

The second half brings more of the same flavors and the body continues at medium.

This is a fine medium-body cigar that has enough different flavors to remain interesting throughout the smoke. I would recommend this cigar to a wide range of taste preferences.

This cigar can be appreciated with a cup of dark-roasted coffee, a medium-full flavored ale, or a nice Bourbon.
