Zino Davidoff is known as much for his generous lifestyle and philosophy as for his super premium cigars. The Davidoff 100th anniversary Diademas Finas were produced to commemorate what would have been Zino’s 100th birthday. I thought it fitting to match this landmark cigar with another international icon, the Macallan 18-yr-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
The tobacco used in the Diademas Finas is a bit of a mystery. What is known is that the wrapper is an Ecuadorian-grown Connecticut shade, while the filler is a Dominican blend that apparently uses some tobaccos that are over 13 years old, drawing from reserves of a special 1993 harvest.
The Macallan 18-yr is a Highland single malt scotch whiskey that has been distilled at Macallan’s Speyside distillery in Scotland. This legendary Single malt is carefully matured for a minimum of 18 years in oak barrels that have previously held Sherry from Jerez, Spain. It’s the Sherry character that is imparted through the saturated oak staves that gives this scotch a luscious and aromatic character.
