Episode 49: Cumbres de Puriscal, Silver, Torpedo and Flor de Caña Rum

Today begins a 3-week celebration of cigars and libation from Central America. The cigar of the day is a gorgeous torpedo, which comes from the Cumbres de Puriscal Silver line: one of the more full-bodied of all cigars made by Tabacos de la Cordillera (”Highland Cigars”). The libation is a special edition Nicaraguan rum.

I purchased these cigars, which were then shipped direct from the factory in Costa Rica and took about two weeks to arrive. This is one way the company hopes to keep the price down and the quality up, since having a distribution site in the U.S. would decrease the time of delivery, but would also drive the up the costs to the consumer. So, the cigars are well packaged and arrive unaffected by their journey.

The Rum is a special edition that commemorates the 21st Century. Ron Flor de Caña Centenario is a commemorative edition of the venerable Rum from Chichigalpa in Nicaragua. It’s produced by Flor de Caña, makers of fine Nicaraguan Rum since 1890.
