Tasting Notes
After a hard day of crossing oceans and navigating far eastern Russia, I like to unwind with a good stogie. Of Course, it only gets better when I have my good friend Jim Beam to share it with. Ya’ll know him. He’s a half-pint from Bardstown, Kentucky. He can’t solve your problems, but he sure can listen.

I am fond of the Camacho brand. I used to smoke them when it was under the stewardship of Simon Camacho (that was a few years ago). Christian Eiora has taken the name one step further with his bold blend of cigars.

I looked this one over keenly. It was chocolate brown on color, with medium-sized veins, and rough in texture. It looked as if it had been just rolled. Heck, if I didn’t miss my guess, it looked just like a dog rocket. But, in all honesty, it smelled better, and I’m not in the habit of smoking dog poop. Please don’t tell my German Shepherd, he’s so happy when he thinks he’s making one just for me. Anyway, the shape was wonderfully flawless, and the barrel firm. The head is noticeably longer that most torpedos’s that you might see. Esthetically it is a great asset to this cigar.

I fired this stogie up with my TSA approved matches. The fullness of the Corojo starts immediately with just a hint of spice. Taste of earth, wood and mushrooms tantalize your senses. Immense amounts of smoke begin to fill the air as this tobacco becomes alive. I thought I might have to file a flight plan to navigate my way out.

In the first half-inch, I noticed some burn problems. This could have been because this stogie was fired-up with matches instead of my Colibri Oscar. This continued here and there, but rotating the cigar cured that problem. There was also some wrapper blistering at this point, but it too corrected itself. I kept the ash on for the first two inches. I measured it with my RTDA Approved Cigar Ash Micrometer. Honest! The ash was gray in color, dense, and razor sharp.

Throughout the cigar, the fullness and flavor continues to build. The spiciness comes in short waves, while the flavors of earth and wood increase. An oiliness envelops your mouth and tongue, and continues to the end. Near the last third, there was a note of chilis. A flavor that I particularly like, and expect with the Corojo leaf. I did experience a teensy amount of bite near the end, but it didn’t last long. The finish was full and long.

Most cigars seem to be blended so that the character changes throughout the cigar. Since this one is all Corojo, it has one character. Other than the strength, the types of flavors don’t change noticeably. Kind of like a good woman, you know what to expect, and they should get better with age.

If you like full-bodied cigars, and the flavor of Corojo, then this is a great cigar to have in your humidor.
