Camacho | Tasting Notes
This is the fourth and last tasting in this series of reviews of the Camacho Havana Figurado here on Stogie Fresh. This cigar is draped in a rich brown Criollo wrapper that is leathery to the touch. A couple of wire veins are evident within the wrapper structure. They are visibly and tactilely prominent, but do not affect the overall construction. The body feels densely packed, with no voids or soft spots detected.
The pre-light aroma is still full of tobacco smells. A rich barnyard odor is just oozing from this specimen. I clip an ample amount off the cap, being careful not to over cut. I toast the foot with my Zippo/Z-Plus lighter, using the heat of the flame, and not the flame itself to ignite the foot. Smoke is soon billowing around the room. This cigar starts out right away with a woody full-bodiedness. This is soon accompanied by a spiciness that begins within the first inch of the cigar. A sharpness in the wood flavors starts near the halfway point, but comes and goes as I progress. Near the halfway point, the flavors have built to the full-bodied taste of coffee. In the last third, the coffee flavors become somewhat overpowering. This has been evident in all the reviews up to this point, but is not as overbearing on the palate this time. I chose to purge the cigar to see if the smoke would sweeten. It worked. The smoke sweetened-up and cooled-down a tad, increasing my time of enjoyment with this cigar. The finish was lingering with full-bodied flavors of wood and coffee. The burn on this cigar was the best in all the tastings. Occasionally, I would get a scalloped burn line, but no uneven, or erratic burn was noted. Rotating the cigar controlled any burn issues that were experienced. The ash was a nice pearl gray that was dense and sharp. It took some effort to get the ash to release from the rest of the cigar when I attempted to brush it off. This is a nice Cuban Style cigar from Camacho. Its not the best in breed, but its far from the worst. I believe that with additional aging, it will be an above average smoke. Aging Potential Score: C = this cigar may age beneficially for the first two years, but we recommend smoking within the first two years. ~Blake Storage Conditions
This cigar has been aging in the middle shelf of my chest humidor at 71%RH. Camacho Cigars produces this puro, with tobacco from their farm in the Jamastran Valley of Honduras.
