Tasting Notes
This is a beautiful cigar, plain and simple. The Camacho Liberty series is one of the finest cigars put out by Camacho and they use only the finest, uppermost leaves (primings) of the tobacco plant, which receive more sun and withstand more stress. The packaging is superb, from the detail of the wooden “coffin” to the tissue wrapper on the cigar and, finally, to the exquisite wrapper leaf, this cigar is a wonder to behold.

The dark chocolate brown wrapper leaf is fine, yet has a leathery texture and is accented with a fine vein structure. After over 16 months in my humidor, the leaf doesn’t have much in the way of aroma, but it is beautiful nonetheless. The body of the cigar is firm yet supple enough and I see no reason why I shouldn’t clip and light this bad boy, so I do.

Performing the honors today is my Palió cutter, which makes short work of the cap. I set the foot to light with a Zippo / Z-Plus torch lighter.

The cigar started off with loads of nutty flavors and was medium-bodied. The draw was superb and the burn was absolutely dead even.

This was so enjoyable to smoke because the construction was so perfect and the draw so clean and effortless that I didn’t have to worry about the cigar going out as I set it down. This enabled me to take my time smoking the cigar and resulted in perfect performance of the smoke.

I am very impressed with how this cigar has mellowed between my last review and this one. It is super balanced between body and flavor and is light yet zesty on the palate. There is the unmistakable Corojo flavor, but it is now tempered with a good dose of complexity and the nuances flit on my palate forever.

This cigar has taken the extra aging well and is a first-class heavyweight. In my last review, I said that I thought this cigar would continue to age successfully for 10 years or more. With this tasting, I would modify that prediction slightly and say that, though it still shows plenty of life and, given the quality of the tobacco, I think this one will still improve, but only over the next 5 years... And, I hope I’m wrong on that prediction. Nonetheless, it is a fantastic smoke right now. This is the quintessential example of the value of aging a fine cigar.

I don’t know if you can still get your hands on a 2004 Liberty Camacho, but if you can, and it has been well-kept, it would be one of the great smokes of your experience.

AGING POTENTIAL SCORE: B = this cigar should age well over the next 5 years and is likely to develop further complexity and nuances.

Storage Conditions
These special edition smokes were released in 2004 and have been packaged in their original wood “coffins” and stored in my cabinet humidor set at 68% RH. This is the fourth and final review of the cigars in this batch.

It has now been 7.5 months that these cigars have been aging in my own humidor and they have some serious aging before being released.
