Miura | Tasting Notes
This is a classic shaped Perfecto that sports a creamy Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. Some medium sized veins are noted along its double-tapered body, which stretches out to a whopping 60 ring gauge in the center. It is slightly spongy, but unyielding to my tactile investigation. A strong barnyard, or ammonia odor is present while getting a good pre-light snort.
After snipping an ample amount from the finished head, I take a pre-light draw to discover what may be in store. Notes of cocoa and tobacco are evident with this easy draw. With the small foot of a Perfecto, I am careful not to over-toast, or char the end with my torch lighter. Better just to let the heat of the flame gently bring the foot to an even coal. I am blasted from the beginning with sharp wood and grassy flavors that are accompanied by heavy notes of pepper spice. They maintain their balance in the strength of these flavors throughout the cigar as the body builds from medium, to medium-full by the bulge of the cigar. Fairly one-dimensional in its flavor profile, it delivers a medium finish with a hint of citrus. This cigar produced a salt and pepper ash that almost resembled Zebra striping. It was well defined with some cracking, but rolled off into a solid pellet when coaxed. The burn line was what I would hope for in most of my cigars while leaving just a small cinder cone when the ash was rolled off. This is an interesting Cuban Style cigar that at least should be tried. It is not short on flavor, or quality, but still might not appeal to all groups. Im hoping that the aging of this cigar will help bring down some of the grassy flavors that this type of wrapper brings, and allow some of the filler and binder flavors to open up more. Well visit this batch of Miura Directo de Fabrica Perfectos again in another three months. ~Blake Storage Conditions
This is the first rating of the Miura Directo de Fabrica Perfecto here at Stogie Fresh. The cigar was a welcomed surprise to the Doc and I at this years RTDA convention. Miura Cigars was founded in 1999 by Jorge Leon and Geidy Leon-Fu as an addition to their factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. After being forced out of Cuba, Francisco Santiago-Fu, Geidys father, started Panamerican Cigars in Panama, once the largest manufacture in the country. Looking for better conditions, they made their way North to Estelí, Nicaragua. Today, they operate Tabacalera Santiago, producing Nicareo and Miura cigars. Each cigar has at least 6 months of aging before it leaves the factory, and this one has an additional 2 months in my Aristocrat humidor at 70-74 degrees F and at 70%RH.
