Tasting Notes
The wrapper on this large perfecto is an Ecuadorian grown Connecticut. It has a rich honey-brown color and displays a light waxy sheen along its body. Small veins are evident in the wrapper, which add subtle good looks to the cigar. An occasional wrinkle can be seen where the roller had to adjust to the rapidly changing ring gauge that this perfecto possesses. Some soft spots can be detected towards the head of the cigar, just after the largest section (middle) of the cigar. This soft area has been consistent in all the samples that I have smoked.

The wrapper on this stick gives off no discernible aroma at this point, but the foot still emits a light woody aroma. After clipping an acceptable portion of the cap, I take a pre-light draw. The easy draw presented my palate light notes of wood and spice.

During the lighting of this cigar, I tried not to incinerate the foot with my torch lighter, but instead tried to finesse the light to prevent any possible damage the delicate wrapper. After the lighting phase was complete, this cigar created large volumes of smoke that filled the room.

I will say at this point that I smoked two samples of this cigar for this review, and although they looked essentially the same, they actually smoked somewhat different from each other.

There were profile differences that varied from woody flavors with heavy spice, to tart and tangy with hints of leather, to light woody flavor with light spice. These inconsistencies have been apparent in all the reviews from the same batch of cigars. It's as if the blend was off just a bit from cigar to cigar. So I figured as an average for this cigar, the profile was medium-bodied with flavors of wood and medium spice in the retrohale.

This cigar produced a pearl-gray ash that often was pretty amazing. On one sample, I was able to produce an ash that was over 4 inches long. Other times, it fell off on its own at one inch. The burn-line itself was always even, with no burn issues noted.

Lack of consistency has always been an issue with this batch of cigars. They do provide some good flavor and strength profiles, but they are like a box of chocolates. (You never know what you're going to get.) I am not convinced that long-term aging will change any of these inconsistencies, but a small amount may balance out its profile. With that, I am assigning it an Aging Potential Score of “D”.

D = we believe these cigars have limited aging potential and recommend that you enjoy them within the first year

Storage Conditions
This is the 4th and final review in the 4-review series of the Miura Directo de Fabrica Perfecto. They have been aging in my Stogie Fresh LE-165 humidor at 62-68° and 68%RH. I have been using the Boveda Pack humidification system in this humidor now for almost a year with almost maintenance free results.
