Tasting Notes
This is the second tasting of the Padilla Hybrid. It receives its name from the “Hybrid “ wrapper that is a cross between Habano and Connecticut Seed. It is grown in Ecuador, where the mountain climate, and nearly continuous cloud cover, produces leaves that look more “Shade Grown”.

The wrapper is a nice chestnut color that is smooth and velvety. There were no apparent blemishes, or variances in color. Other than one small vein, the wrapper appeared to be void of any leaf-like characteristics. The pre-light aroma was pungent with the smell of ripe tobacco.

I gently clipped the double-cap of this “Premie” and took a pre-light pull. It provided an easy draw, rich in the flavor of wood and nuts. I then set to the task of toasting the foot, then providing a nice ember with a few short pulls. Flavors of wood, nuts and a hint of spice accompany the dense, blue smoke as this cigar comes to life.

As I progressed, the flavors of wood and nuts continued to build, somewhat overpowering the light spice. The flavors themselves did not vary much and proved not too complex in my opinion. This is a mild cigar that started off mild in body, building to medium, and then finishing with a medium “woody” flavor.

The ash was a nice salt and pepper color that was razor-sharp. No “feathering” or “flowering” was noted. I brushed the ash off effortlessly at the one-inch area. As the burn proved to be nice and even throughout the smoke, some blistering was noticed here and there near the burn line.

This is an interesting cigar. It’s uniqueness and construction is top notch. It is rich with flavor, although not very complex. It would be great for the novice smoker, yet will provide pleasure and challenges for the more experienced palate. We’ll rate this one again in three months.

Storage Conditions
I have stored these in my chest humidor at 69%RH with the cello still on. This has slowed the aging process, but protected the cigar somewhat from marrying too much with some of my stronger stogies.
