Tasting Notes
BACKGROUND: The Padrón 2000 Maduro is a Cuban-seed, Nicaraguan puro. The wrapper, binder, and filler tobaccos all originate from the Padrón fields in Esteli, Nicaragua where they have been making cigars since 1990.

TASTING NOTES: The Padrón 2000 Maduro will never be accused of being a beautiful looking cigar: it is quite lumpy and rustic with a slightly crooked cap on many of the sticks in my box. Its aroma is quintessential barnyard with delightful scents of moist soil, hay, and manure.

If I had to describe the smoking experience I have with this cigar in one word it would be “consistent”. The flavors, smoke, draw, and burn on the Padrón 2000 Maduro are nearly identical every time I pull one out of the box. This to me is a true testament to the incredible cigar making abilities of the Padrón family. If there ever was a cigar that you could confidently pass judgment on after smoking it only once (which of course we strongly oppose here at Stogie Fresh) this would be it. And the judgment in my opinion is” “buy some more’! After having to struggle with occasional plugs, burn issues, and flavor variations in other brands it is nice to have a cigar you can really count on!

The Padrón 2000 Maduro has wonderful rich flavors earth, of dark-roasted coffee, and one of the best bittersweet chocolate tastes you will find in a cigar. Not only are these flavors pretty consistent throughout the duration of a single cigar but I have found that they have not really changed much with the aging since my first review…but that is definitely not a bad thing in this case! I did not experience any of the loss of flavor in the final 1/3 of the cigar that I noticed with a couple of the samples in my first review. Overall, the Padrón 2000 Maduro is a full flavored cigar that is mild to medium in body, therefore, I think it is an ideal cigar for smokers of any level of experience.

The draw and burn with this cigar were in a word “perfect”. I would be totally comfortable with leaving my lighter behind after lighting this cigar up because you never need to touch it up or relight. It produces a ton of wonderful smoke with a beautiful bready aroma.

The Padrón 2000 Maduro is the model of consistency in terms of both its wonderful flavors and its flawless draw and burn. So far it does not seem to be changing much with age but given the extensive aging that is done before it is put to market maybe it is not surprising that a few extra months have little noticeable effect. Let’s see what some more time will bring…

Storage Conditions
These cigars have been stored in their original cedar box in my Geneve 500 CT cabinet humidor. To facilitate the marrying of flavors and aromas, I removed each cigar from its cellophane. The humidor has been maintained at 65-67% RH with temperatures ranging between 67-70 °F. This is the second in my series of reviews on this batch of cigars with each review based on smoking the cigar 5 times.
