Tatuaje
Tasting Notes
Tatuaje’s have a reputation of being full-bodied smokes. My first two reviews verified this notion, but I came away thinking that this cigar is still rough around the edges and needed more age to bring out its best qualities. Today’s review will test that theory.

All the Tobacco used in the Tatuaje Cigars are 1st Generation Cuban Seed, Grown in Nicaragua. The Cigars are rolled in classic Cuban Tradition (including triple caps) in Little Havana Miami, FL U.S.A.

One of the things I like to do when I open a box of cigars, providing of course that I have an entire box of the cigars, is to quickly stick my nose deep down within the box for a big whiff. I love the smell of freshly opened cigars in the morning; and any other time, for that matter. In this case, the Tatuaje Unicos did not disappoint. There was a wealth of alfalfa, hay and nuts as well as the slightly acridness of still fermenting tobacco. The beauty of a cabinet-style box is that it slows the fermentation process down to a crawl and allows the cigars to gently and peacefully come to maturity.

After extracting a prime subject, I head outside and proceed with the prelight inspection. This is a good-looking stogie, with a dark and velvety wrapper. The wrapper has a rough texture with a couple of knurly veins. The fill is supple, if not soft, but I wouldn’t say it’s spongy.

I clip and light and enjoy the full, rich flavors that I have come to expect with this line of cigars. The draw was a little tight, so I trim off an additional eighth of an inch and that seems to be just right. With the additional clip, the draw is just right and I am greeted with tons of spice, full tobacco flavors and smoke. The finish is long and full on the palate.

The burn line is a little ragged but it doesn’t otherwise affect the draw or flavors. The ash, which is a dark gray, is falling flush with the foot each time I tap off.

This is a big, full-flavored and full-bodied cigar. Tobacco and coffee flavors are predominant. I especially recommend it for those who like a full cigar and can take the strength and power that is provided.
