Tatuaje | Tasting Notes
The Tatuaje Havana VI is a cigar blended by Don Pepin Garcia and manufactured in Nicaragua.
As a result of being rolled in Nicaragua, Tatuaje has been able to find a cigar that is lower in price than its flagship Tatuajes that are rolled in the El Rey de los Habanos factory in Miami. This is a real boon to those smokers who want to experience Don Pepin blends at a lower price point. The first thing that strikes me about this cigar is the aroma. It has a wonderful and pungent mixture of hay and barnyard. This cigar also has a spicy aroma in the nose. Its an intoxicating aroma that you can almost taste with your olfactory sense. After a quick clip and a slow light, I note flavors of sweet spice, which is very pleasant. The burn is irregular and the burn line meandering from the outset, so I slow down my puff rate and try to keep the ash on a bit longer to reduce oxygen to the burning ember. This strategy is rewarded by the second in, as the burn straightens itself out. Of course, as luck would have it, no sooner did the burn straighten out, then it went awry again. This time it canoed fairly badly and didnt straighten out again until just past the halfway mark. I also experienced some burn problems during the first review of this cigar. The ash was a bit flaky so I was very careful to keep it away from my lap as I coaxed only an inch-long ash before it dropped to the ground next to my feet. The flavors were a redeeming characteristic of this smoke, which were imbued with sweet spice and tobacco flavors and a bit of wood on the finish. The body, which was medium at the outset, finished medium-full. These are flavorful cigars, which are a good value and a pleasure to experience. I am hoping that the burn problems will fade with more aging. Ill be able to test this theory in another 3 months. ~Doc Storage Conditions
These cigars have been resting in their original cedar cabinet in my Aristocrat M+ cabinet humidor. The RH is set at 68% and the temperature has been varying between 68-72 degrees F. As it starts to warm up in the summer months, I will probably reduce the RH setting to 65-66%. This is the second in a series of reviews on this batch of cigars. They have been resting comfortably for nearly 8 months.
